Sydney Johnson ’20 and Ricardo Garces ’20 have achieved excellence in the classroom and on the athletic fields during their Wardlaw+Hartridge careers. The W+H seniors were recognized for their consistent performance in both areas by being named the school’s GMC Scholar Athlete award winners.
This award is presented to the students who “have pursued excellence in their chosen sport as well as in their studies.” Typically, GMC schools nominate one male and one female representative.
Sydney and Ricardo captained the volleyball and boys’ soccer teams, respectively, while emerging as academic leaders in their class. Sydney will be attending Princeton University, while Ricardo is headed to Villanova University.
“We are grateful for your contributions to Ram athletics and we are glad to recognize you in this way,” said Karl Miran, athletic director, in an email to this year’s W+H honorees.
Since the GMC canceled this year’s banquet due to the coronavirus, W+H plans to include the presentation of these awards in the virtual Rams Recognition Night on May 27.
