Andrea Barnett, Middle School science teacher and Science Department Co-Chair, challenged her sixth grade students to create stop motion animations of cell division.
The students have worked mostly on their own to read and watch instructional videos about cell division including mitosis. Mrs. Barnett met with her students a few times over Zoom to share some in-person lessons. Through this assignment, she was hoping the students could show whether they understood the process. She has learned through their submissions which parts of the process are still confusing to them and will continue to review those elements. Overall, she was pleased with the results.
“They also learned several valuable new technical skills of animation and uploading while continuing to work on time management and concentration! They also had an opportunity to work on creativity and ingenuity by finding objects in the house that meet their needs,” Mrs. Barnett said.
