Peer Leadership
The Peer Leadership program, established in 1976, provides seniors with an opportunity to work with freshmen as mentors, helping the ninth grade students with their transition to high school, introducing them to Upper School extracurricular and social opportunities, and discussing moral and ethical issues. The goal of the Peer Leadership program is to provide a platform for the older students in our community to model and cultivate positive character traits. Peer Leaders may also be called upon to serve in other leadership capacities.

The small group of selected seniors chosen as Peer Leaders facilitates a year-long program to orient ninth grade students to Upper School. Seniors lead discussions, once a week during the first and second semester, pertaining to academic and social skills needed for success at W+H.
The curriculum of the Peer Leadership program covers topics such as:
- Managing school rules
- Navigating the social media landscape
- Coping with stress and organizing school work
- Social relationships in and out of school
- Academic honesty
- Study skills
- Ethical dilemmas and conflict management
Seniors participate in a late summer retreat to conclude their training. In late November, seniors and freshmen participate in an overnight retreat just prior to Thanksgiving. Peer Leadership concludes in March with a closing retreat for the freshmen and peer leaders.
