Introducing The Lambkin to Our W+H Community

Presenting The Lambkin, Early Childhood and Lower School Musings by JohnEric Advento, Head of Lower School.

Now that I am officially a member of the Wardlaw+Hartridge Rams family, I would like to introduce this space to share some food for thought with you. The dictionary definition of Lambkin is the following:

Lamb·kin /ˈlamkən/noun
1.    a small or young lamb.
o    used as a term of endearment for a young child.
" 'Hush, my lambkin,' she said, rocking the child in her arms"

It has been an incredible honor to begin this school year as the Head of the Lower School, an advocate and supporter of our 154 Lower School lambkins, an instructional leader among our talented faculty, and a partner with you in our collective mission at W+H.

As we start the year, I would like to take this opportunity to learn more about you, as well as your children by asking you some key questions. One thought is that at next week’s LS Coffee and Conversation on October 14, we may begin to discuss your various thoughts and answers to the following questions: 

• What do you see as your child’s greatest strengths and skills? Tell us about a time when you saw your child demonstrating those skills. 
• Next June, what do you hope your child says about his/her experience in school this year? What’s the story you hope to hear?  
• What was your experience like in this grade? How do you remember that year of school? 
• What are your fears or concerns about your child in this year of school? 
• Is there anything else you can tell us about your child that you think would help us support his/her learning? 
• Is there a question you hope we’ll ask you about your child?
