Are you ready for summer? You’ve come to the right place! A summer at Wardlaw+Hartridge is an experience that campers never forget. We offer a wide variety of summer camps and programs for students in grades PreK - 12th. Our programs range from traditional day camps, specialty camps, and sports camps for campers who want a fun, active, and enriching camp experience, to creative art programs for campers who want to express their creative side and showcase their talents. Wardlaw+Hartridge also offers Summer Academic classes for our older campers who want to review concepts from the previous year, or get exposure to courses taken in the upcoming school year. Whether you want a traditional camp experience or a more focused summer, our schedule is designed so campers can mix and match different programs for a diverse and balanced summer experience.

Bus Service Information for Camp
Wardlaw+Hartridge is happy to announce that bus service is available for the summer of 2024! Please note that summer bus service is not door-to-door service; however, we provide centrally located stops to allow families easy access to our camp. By providing central stops, this allows us to offer families bus service at a low cost, but also allows the route to be as short as possible, meaning that your child will not be on the bus for too long. Exact locations of the stops will be created based on bus service enrollment. Our goal is for families to travel no more than half a mile to get to their designated stops.
All buses will arrive to Wardlaw+Hartridge between 8:30am and 8:45am and they will leave between 3:45pm and 4pm.
Cost of Service: $50/week per child ($30 for the 4th of July week)
We will run four routes and anticipate bus service in the following towns and surrounding areas: Cranford, Garwood, Westfield, Scotch Plains, Edison, Metuchen, Woodbridge, Clark, South Plainfield, and potentially Piscataway, Bridgewater, Somerville area.
Bus service will be offered for the following camp programs: Adventure Camp, Sports Camp, Specialty Camp, Musical Theater Camp, Performing Arts and AV Camp*, Summer Scholars (non-credit)**
Bus service is not available for campers in Camp Funshine; however, if a Camp Funshine camper has a sibling in another camp that will take the bus, the Camp Funshine camper is eligible for the bus as well. Please note that the buses do not have car seats in them.
We do not offer bus service for our pre-summer sports camp, end of summer soccer camp, or Summer Scholars (credit courses).
*Performing Arts and AV Camp participants can ride the bus; however, the bus will arrive 15-30 minutes before their camp starts and leave 45 minutes after their camp ends. if campers wish to take the bus, they will need to wait for the bus or for their camp to start. We will have a designated place for them to wait if needed.
**Summer Scholars(non-credit) students can take the bus to camp; however, because of the timing of the program, they are unable to take the bus in the afternoon unless they are a middle school student enrolled in the afternoon add-on option.
Please note: Bus service is contingent on user demand. If we do not have enough students interested in bus service, unfortunately, we will not be able to offer the service. Decisions about routes will be made before the May 1st refund deadline.
Pre-Summer Sports Camp: Grades 1 - 8 (June 17 - 21)
If your child ends school in early June and you are looking for a program where they can be active and develop their athletic abilities, then you are at the right place! Wardlaw+Hartridge’s Pre-Summer Sports Camp is a one week program for campers who want to elevate their game, or just have fun while learning a new sport. Our Pre-Summer Sports Camp is intended to cultivate athlete’s talents in an engaging, supportive, and challenging environment.
Coached by Wardlaw+Hartridge’s talented coaching staff, campers will develop techniques to help them become better athletes and reach the pinnacle of their game. In this intensive, but enjoyable program, campers will work on fundamentals each day and coaches will develop training programs so that every camper gets the most out of their experience. The camp is open to athletes of all levels but campers must be able to participate in 2-3 hours of sports each day.

GRADE 1 - 5
For students entering Grades 1-5, we offer a Multisports Camp which is designed to inspire a passion in sports through engaging sessions that feature different sports each day. Aside from sports, students will swim and take part in active games and other activities throughout the day.
Hours: 9:00am - 3:30pm
Cost: $500
*Campers must register for the full day

Hours: 9:00am - 12:00pm or 12:30pm - 3:30pm
Cost: $300 for half day; $500 for the full day
Students entering grades 6-8 can choose half day (AM or PM) or full day. Students who choose to attend the full day can either choose the same sport, or they can mix two different sports, one in the morning and one in the afternoon.

EXTENDED CARE
There is no extended care option during our Pre-Summer Sports Camp.

Lunch will be provided to all full day campers.

All campers must have a medical form and a current immunization record on file by May 15th.
REFUND POLICY
Wardlaw+Hartridge will issue a full refund of tuition paid, minus a $50 processing fee, if notification of withdrawal is given in writing on or before May 1st. Between May 1st and June 1st, families will receive a full refund minus the 20% deposit. Starting on June 1st, there will be no refunds.
Camp Funshine: PreK - K (June 24 - August 9)
Welcome to Camp Funshine, a place where the fun shines all day, and friendships and new experiences await! In this program for children entering PreK - K, campers will stretch their imagination and explore new interests by participating in a wide variety of camp activities. We provide a safe, nurturing environment that encourages the growth of social skills, logical thinking, and creativity while engaging campers in activities such as arts and crafts, science, music, indoor and outdoor play, and swimming. Each week, campers will celebrate a designed theme and participate in games, activities, and projects that center around that theme.
Our summer staff includes experienced teachers, parents, working professionals, college students, and energetic high school students who are all dedicated to providing a safe, welcoming, and fun summer for all of our campers. We keep a student to staff ratio of at least 1:5 and each group will be led by an experienced adult; some activities, such as swimming, will have a ratio of 1:3. We are proud of our experienced and committed team, and are pleased to have the vast majority of our staff return summer after summer.

Adventure Camp: Grades 1 - 5 (June 24 - August 9)
Welcome to Adventure Camp, where every day is a fun adventure! In this program for children entering grades 1-5, campers develop and practice life skills through experiential, engaging activities that build independence and self-confidence. Campers spend their day participating in a variety of activities that encourage logical thinking, creativity, and physical education. In the mornings, all campers will participate in hands-on activities involving aspects of science and art, while also having an opportunity to swim two days a week. The rest of the day is dedicated to outdoor and indoor games and activities that encourage kids to be kids. Whether it’s a water balloon toss, an exciting game of kickball or an epic game of capture the flag, campers will have different options each day to ensure they have an exciting adventure. We also understand that our campers might need some time to rejuvenate; therefore, each day will have time dedicated for campers to participate in indoor activities as well.

Sports Camps: Grades 1 - 8 (June 24 - August 9)
Thanks to our partnership with Pulse Sports, campers are able to get an extraordinary sports program AND a high level traditional day camp mixed into one package! Our summer sports camps are intended to cultivate athlete’s talents in an engaging, supportive, and challenging environment. We offer sports camps for campers entering 1st - 8th grade. Our sports camps are catered to campers at a range of different levels, and involve a combination of individual and group instruction.
Each day will consist of training sessions in the morning while the afternoon is filled with swimming, and other indoor and outdoor activities and games that campers can choose. The camp is open to campers of all skill levels, but participants should be able to participate in 3-4 hours of sports activities each day.
All sports camps offer an advanced multi-level training curriculum designed by a team of professional coaches to provide campers with a superior training experience and enable them to reach the pinnacle of their game. Our staff consists of dedicated and qualified members of the Pulse Sports coaching staff, as well as members of the W+H community.

Specialty Camps: Grades 4 - 8 (July 1 - August 9)
Welcome to Wardlaw+Hartridge’s Specialty Camps! Specialty Camps offer campers the opportunity to explore new subjects or cultivate existing interests with hands-on activities and projects. Each camp is devoted to a specific subject to ensure the most in-depth, appropriate exposure to the topic possible. Each specialty camp has two groups; one group is for campers entering 4th - 6th grade and the other group is for campers entering 6th - 8th grade.
Our 4th - 6th grade groups will spend two hours throughout the day focusing on their specialty while our 6th - 8th grade groups will go a little more in-depth, spending 3.5 hours each day on their specialty. Outside of their specialty, campers will have a typical camp experience that includes swimming two to three days a week and various outdoor and indoor activities to choose from.

Specialty Camp Offerings
Brain Boosters
Brain Boosters offers campers an opportunity to strengthen their skills in math, reading, and writing using hands-on activities and projects. Campers will exercise their critical thinking skills to solve challenges throughout the camp using concepts in math, reading, and writing that they might have learned during the school year. Campers will also work independently and cooperatively to solve mysteries and complete hands-on projects. The goal is to help campers become active and curious learners and exercise their mind in a fun learning environment.

- Session 3 (July 29-August 9): Grades 4-6
Chess Masters
This camp teaches the rules and basics of chess play, stressing critical thinking and techniques that incorporate math/logic skills. Campers are taught good sportsmanship and to treat every loss as an opportunity to improve. Campers are also shown problem-solving methods that can be modified in various other areas of higher thinking. Campers who already know the game will be ready to delve into the principles of logical play, including all three phases of chess (opening, middlegame and endgame). All levels are welcome to join and students will be placed in groups based on their experience and knowledge of the game.
This camp is taught by Farai Mandizha, an internationally renowned chess player, coach, and four-time Chess Olympian. He has immense experience in teaching curriculum and after-school programs for years and will be able to give the right guidance to this budding chess community.

Creative Writing
If you have a story to tell, then this is the camp for you! In this camp, we will dive into creative writing across genres, exploring fiction, poetry, nonfiction, scriptwriting, and more! Through games, exercises, prompts, and workshops, you will experiment with new forms, sharpen your skills, and discover your unique artistic voice in a collaborative, fun, and supportive environment.

- Session 3 (July 29-August 9): Grades 6-8
Digital Photography
This course is designed for its participants to develop their photographic eye by learning techniques to control light, shadows, contrast, aperture, shutter speed and other skills to photograph the things they love about summer. By the end of the course, the participants will each have a collage of images that will represent their time at camp. We will be learning portraiture, still life, landscape, and photo-journalistic style pictures.

Dungeons and Dragons
Looking for adventure? Ready to face off with villains and fight for the common good? If so, then you have what it takes to join our D&D camp! Tabletop role playing games are cooperative storytelling games in which our campers are the heroes of the story. Together they work towards a goal, solve puzzles and defeat baddies, all while having a blast. This camp is an interactive choose-your-own-adventure kind of camp, full of collaboration and fun! Campers will create and develop their own characters, role play in game, and build those bonds that turn strangers into friends. No experience with D&D is needed.

Fashion Design
Calling all fashionistas! If you ever thought about creating your own clothing, or designing that next outfit for celebrities, then this is the camp for you. Work with your friends and design alternative designs for any occasion! Campers will sketch out designs and create simple designs using fabric glue; no sewing necessary in this class that will get your inspirational juices flowing!

- Session 2 (July 15-26): Grades 4-6
Graphic Design
Interested in drawing, art, or design? In this camp, you’ll learn how to use your doodling skills for real, by doing design projects for local nonprofits or small businesses. You will learn how to make professional posters and art that people want to pay for, and you’ll ultimately design posters and ads for real organizations with good causes. This camp is taught by teachers from Vineyard App Camp.

Journalism
Do you have an eye for detail? Are you interested in everything and everyone in the world around you? Are you consistently in the ‘know’ and notorious for asking ‘why’? If so, then the Journalism camp is for you! In this camp, we will focus on researching topics that are important to you; whether you want to go out and conduct a series of interviews, write a hard-hitting local or world news investigation, or want to start your own creative writing series, there will be plenty of opportunities to explore what interests you and to see your own work!

Movie Making
Looking out at the world and into our imaginations, we will create short films varying from documentaries to commercial spoofs to live action dramas! This camp will explore sound, motion, special effects, creativity, and more. While learning how to shoot and edit, we will make videos filled with the creatures, characters, and worlds both imagined and real.

Multimedia Creations
In this mixed media camp, we will discover the many ways different materials can be combined into one artwork. Woven sculptures incorporating fabric and metal, photographs we take and draw on top of, and making our own paper to collage with are just the beginning-- we will explore it all. If you've ever had trouble choosing just one material for your next art project, this is the camp for you!

Sculpture
In the camp, campers will work on projects where they can design a piece of art that speaks to them. Whether it’s building a new structure for their city or just creating an abstract structure, campers will be challenged to utilize their creative side to design something spectacular. Campers will work with various mediums to create their own pieces that can be displayed for friends and family!

Video Game Design
Do you love video games? Have you ever wanted to make a video game of your own? Well now you can! In Video Game Design we will be exploring how to make RPGs, Platformers, Dungeon Crawlers and everything in between! Campers will learn the basics of creating a game: making levels, programming movement, creating your own character and finally putting it all together!

Performing Arts Camp: Grades 5 - 12 (June 24 - August 9)
Welcome to the Wardlaw+Hartridge Performing Arts Camp! In this program, campers will unleash their creative side and perform their hearts out! Our three week program for incoming 8th - 12th graders provide an intensive training in live performance and media production while our four week program for incoming 5th - 8th graders focus on all aspects of musical theater.

Musical Theater: Grades 5 - 8 (July 15 - August 9)
Campers entering grades 5-8 will have an opportunity to explore all aspects of musical theater production which includes vocal coaching, acting, costume design, and set design. Throughout the four weeks, campers spend their mornings working on a live production that they will showcase to families and friends at the end of the program. Our focus is on building campers’ confidence and self-esteem. By using theater as a tool, we help our campers break out of their shells, and become confident in public speaking and their everyday lives.
In the afternoon, campers will experience a typical camp experience that includes their choice of swimming and various outdoor and indoor activities and games to choose from.
The Musical Theater Camp includes the following:
- Daily hot nutritional lunch
- Camp T-shirt (one per summer)
- Swimming and other recreational activities
- An opportunity to create your own production

As in the professional space, students must submit an application to be considered for this camp. The deadline for the submission will be May 1, at 11:59pm and applicants will be notified on a rolling basis. We advise any student interested in this program to apply as early as possible.

The Summer Performing Arts and Audio-Visual Camp will provide an intensive training in live performance and media production. Students can tailor their studies to performance-only classes, audio/visual-only classes, or a hybrid of the two. At the end of the program, students will have a variety of projects that they can use in college applications and more. The pacing of the program is designed to stimulate a realistic professional musical production.
Performance Track: Students will learn repertoire from a variety of musical theater shows, culminating in a final concert with both live and recorded performances at the end of the three weeks.
Audio/Visual Track: Students will develop skills in video and audio recording, producing, and editing, as well as live stage management, and production. At the final concertn, they will display their edited recordings of their performing peers.
Hybrid Track: Students will combine aspects of both performance skills and media production, and aid in their peers' preparation.

**After being admitted into the program, high school Juniors and Seniors who are interested in directing musical scenes (either live or video) can be considered for the position of Assistant Director, a position which confers special opportunities and requires a separate application which will be available after acceptance letters have been sent.

Summer Scholars: Grades 7 - 12 (June 24 - August 2)
Wardlaw+Hartridge’s Summer Scholars Program is intended for students entering grades 7-12 who want an academic summer experience to gain exposure to a course they might take in the next school year, or review a course before moving onto the next level. We offer non-credit academic enrichment programs for students entering grades 7-12 and full credit courses for students entering grades 9-12.
Whether you are joining Summer Scholars to give yourself an academic challenge or just want to try and prevent the “summer slide” that is so common with this age group, our students will be met with an enriching experience that is taught by talented and experienced faculty.

Students enrolled in our 7th-9th grade program will take two classes each day. The first class runs 8:45am - 10:30am and students can either take Pre-Algebra or Algebra 1. The second class runs from 10:45am - 12pm and all students will take the Reading/Writing for a well-balanced academic experience.
Students entering grades 7-8 may choose to extend the day by adding an afternoon option to join our camp activities. Students who choose this option will join one of our camp groups to participate in lunch, swimming and other outdoor and indoor activities and games each day.
Pre-Algebra
This course will reinforce key math concepts and operations and explore important new concepts in Algebra. Topics covered may include comparing, ordering and operations with integers, order of operations, the distributive property and the coordinate system, exponents and scientific notation, graphing, and creating algebraic equations. More topics may be covered if time permits.
Algebra I
This course will introduce and explore the fundamental elements of the Algebra 1 curriculum. Topics covered may include algebraic expressions and functions, integers, rational and real numbers, solving multi-step equations, variables, formulas and functions, rations, proportions, coordinate planes, rate of change, slope, and much more.
Reading/Writing
This course is intended to enhance the student’s understanding, comprehension and enjoyment of literature. They will become more adept at identifying themes and interpreting characterization and figurative language. Readings may include a significant novel, poetry, short stories, drama, and analytical essays. Students will write several papers based on the works of literature they are reading, and time will be devoted to exploring essay structure and developing a strong academic voice. Also, they will learn and polish the skills needed to write high quality analytical essays. Skills to be addressed include composing effective thesis statements and paragraphs, organizing the essay, acquiring and using supporting evidence and arguments, and of course, editing and rewriting techniques.

Non-Credit Courses: Grades 9-12 (June 24 - August 2)
Algebra II: 9:00am - 11:30am
This course, intended for students who have completed a full course in Algebra I, will introduce students to concepts in Algebra II such as quadratics and various ways to solve them (square root method, factoring, completing the square, the quadratic formula, etc.). Students will also learn about vertex form and graphing, polynomials, rationales, intercepts, asymptotes, and much more.
Geometry: 9:00am - 11:30am
This course explores selected topics that are fundamental in a traditional Geometry course. Topics covered include basics of Geometry: points, lines, planes, distance and midpoint, angles and measurement, segment and angle bisectors, parallel and perpendiculars, triangles, quadrilaterals, tangents, and more.

Full Credit Courses: Grades 9-12 (June 24 - July 29)
Full credit courses are for students wishing to advance their academic studies in the summer. These courses are academically rigorous and are equivalent to a college preparatory course. A course may be taken for transfer credit if the student’s school gives approval. Wardlaw+Hartridge students taking a course must obtain approval from the department chair from the area of expertise and the Division Head.
Algebra II
This course covers the study of functions-linear, quadratic, inverse, trigonometric, discrete, and recursive. These functions will be solved and graphed with and without the graphing calculator. The real number system will be extended to include rational exponents and complex numbers. (Prerequisite: Algebra 1)
Geometry
This course is a study of the properties of points, lines, angles, plane figures and solids. Topics to be covered will include congruence, constructions, parallelism, similarity, perpendicularity, areas, and volumes. Emphasis is placed on deductive reasoning, mathematical proof and the postulates and theorems. Also, the elements of coordinate geometry and right triangle trigonometry will be introduced.
Pre-Calculus and Trigonometry
This course expands the concepts of Algebra II and includes further study of functions and their graphs. The additional functions include polynomial, exponential and logarithmic functions, series, sequences, and limits. The six trigonometric functions which will be studied include functions of special and quadrantal angles, fundamental identities, graphs, inverse trig functions, applications and trigonometry equations. Parametric equations and polar graphing will be included as well.

We have different camps the run between June 17 - August 16. Staff do not need to work the full summer but must be available for at least 2-3 consecutive weeks. We have a wide variety of positions at our camp which include:
- Head Counselor: must be at 21 years or older
- Assistant Counselor: must be 18 years old and out of high school for at least 1 year
- Junior Counselor: high school students and recent graduates who are at least 16 years old
- Activity Coordinator/Leader: must be 21 years or older and graduated from college or have prior experience coordinating activities at a large camp
- Lifeguard: must possess, or willing to obtain, lifeguard certification
- Teachers for all subjects (Art, Science, Writing, and other specialties)
