Epidemiologist Enlightens Upper School Students

Rudy Brandl

Jerusha Barton, an epidemiologist from the Department of Health of the State of Georgia, visited the Upper School Epidemiology class on Zoom last week. Ms. Barton brought to life the difficult job of an epidemiologist and how their research affects public policy while they try to understand various health crises both nationally and internationally. She was originally hired by the department to track how Zika affects pregnancy and newborn infants. Over time she moved to tracking syphilis and now she works with the CDC to understand the impact of COVID-19.
