The W+H Conservatory Program

When our students graduate W+H, we want them to be prepared to lead and succeed in college and in professional settings with the skills and self-discipline that they will learn in this program. We also want to be purposeful about helping our students to become vocal advocates for the arts.

- Sharon Byrne, Performing Arts Department Chair

The W+H Conservatory Program caters to students who are dedicated to acquiring the knowledge and skills necessary to lead and succeed in the performing arts in college and professional settings.  Students who successfully complete the requirements of the program will earn an endorsement on their W+H diploma.

GOALS

Music students will develop their musicianship through study in our classes, private music lessons on their instrument, and many performance opportunities. They will be fully prepared to audition for the top music programs around the country and will be able to hold their own in auditioning for theatrical productions.

Theatrical production students will be well-positioned to apply for college programs and theatrical production job opportunities with the hands-on, well-rounded set of skills that they will learn through our program.

REQUIREMENTS

The program will require membership in the band or choir for the Performance Track and technical theatre practicum for the Production Track in all four years of Upper School. Performance students also must enroll in music theory classes, take private voice or instrumental lessons and participate in recitals, among other requirements. Production students need to take classes in advanced audio production, studio recording and film, in addition to providing support at plays, musicals, recitals and concerts.

I'm truly grateful for the opportunity to guide and instruct our students in the W+H Conservatory Program! The students will be taught the essentials that are needed to develop their skills and prepare them to shine on and off the stage. Whether it be in our theatre or beyond, I know they are up for the challenge. This is a big step for our Performing Arts Department and I cannot wait to see what comes next!

- Alex Nappi, Berry PAC Manager

If I had to describe the Conservatory Program in three words, it would be collaborative, thought-provoking and engaging. It really makes you grow as a person because music helps in so many different areas of life.

- Cameron Williams '27, enrolled in the Performance track

Not only will our students master the skills that they will need to perform, but they will also learn what it means to be a part of a team to create something bigger than themselves. It is very important to us that our students learn to develop good work ethic and interpersonal skills so that they can always have a positive influence in whatever career that they choose to pursue.
