Performing Arts Department
Wardlaw+Hartridge music students broaden their appreciation for the power and importance of music through reading music notation, listening to and talking about music critically, and participating in authentic performing experiences through a wide range of musical styles and contexts. Upper School musicians experience a performance-based curriculum designed to enhance music literacy skills while in an ensemble setting.
Throughout their Upper School years, students have the opportunity to display their skills during annual school concerts, recitals, and performances in our community. W+H School musicians may audition for our select groups, Jazz Band and MadJazz, where their performance skills are challenged by more sophisticated arrangements and musicianship training. Motivated music students are encouraged to sign up for private music lessons with excellent music teachers through our partnership with Rutgers Community Arts. Several of our music students have auditioned for and have been selected to participate in Region, State, and National music festivals. We highly recommend that students who are interested in majoring or minoring in music in college take our Fundamentals of Music Theory and AP Music Theory courses.
Our goal for students is to develop a life-long love of music,
encouraging musical enjoyment and participation
long after they leave Wardlaw+Hartridge.
