Mathematics Department

The goal of the Mathematics Department at Wardlaw+Hartridge is to provide our students with the instruction, support and environment to allow them to develop their skills in critical, creative, and independent thinking, and in computational competence.  Additionally, our students build their level of understanding for mathematical principles by investigating real-life applications, as well as by solving interactive and open-ended mathematical problems.

It is recommended that students take Mathematics courses all four years in the Upper School. The program is designed to further enhance students’ analytical skills, so that they can master the concepts and ideas presented in mathematics. At Wardlaw+Hartridge, we believe that a student should be placed into the math course that is appropriate for their skill-set and not tied to their grade level. For example, a student in 9th grade could be in Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2, or Pre-calculus. In addition, Wardlaw+Hartridge provides students with the opportunity to advance in math through a summer course.

Upper School students graduate from Wardlaw+Hartridge with a deep appreciation for mathematics as a science, a language, and a tool that can be utilized to solve the problems of daily living.  In addition, they are fully prepared to handle mathematical principles in any four-year institution of higher learning.

Upper School students build their level of understanding for mathematical principles by investigating real-life applications learning that mathematics is a science, a language, and a tool that is used to solve complex problems.
