JSTOR is a not-for-profit service that helps scholars, researchers, and students discover, use, and build upon a wide range of content on a trusted digital archive of more than one thousand academic journals and one million primary sources.  JSTOR archives provide access to archival and current issues of more than 2,000 scholarly journals across more than 50 academic disciplines.  JSTOR includes scholarly journals, conference proceedings, primary source materials, and books.  JSTOR exposes secondary school students to peer-reviewed scholarly research.

ProQuest delivers millions of articles from more than 8,000 full-text scholarly journals, magazines, and newspapers.  Allows simple web-like searches that query the full array of ProQuest from historical to current content.  ProQuest preserves rich, vast and varied information - whether historical archives or today’s scientific breakthroughs - and packages it with digital technologies that enhance its discovery, sharing and management.  For academic, corporate, government, school and public libraries, as well as professional researchers.

Facts on File's Reference Databases are interdisciplinary, interactive databases on a wide range of subjects. The Curriculum Resource Center gives librarians, teachers, students, and researchers’ fast access to information. Sub areas include: History Database Search Center, American History Online, World History Online, American Women’s History, African-American History and Culture, American Indian History & Culture, Ancient History and Culture, Health Reference Center, Science Online, Curriculum Resource Center (including Junior Edition), World Atlas, Literary Reference, Ferguson’s Career Guidance Center, Personal and Business Forms. 

Ebscohost is a database that provides access to over 4,000 magazines, newspapers and journals. Students may choose to search one or several of the databases at once. Full text articles are offered in both HTML and PDF format on thousands of titles.

In addition to the magazine database, Ebscohost also provides “Literary Reference Center” (Information on thousands of authors and their works), “NoveList” and “Novelist K-8” (search by author, plots, reviews, and series), “Points of View” (full-text essays that provide multiple sides of a current issue, point and counterpoint), and “Salud en Espanol” (reports and fact sheets in Spanish on all aspects of consumer health and wellness)

The New York Times  is an American daily newspaper, founded and continuously published in New York City since September 18, 1951.  The paper’s motto, “All the News That’s Fit to Print”, appears in the upper left-hand corner of the front page.  Since the mid-1970s, it has greatly expanded its lay-out and organization, adding special weekly sections on various topics supplementing the regular news, editorials, sports and features.  Recently it has been organized into sections; News, Editorials/Opinions-Columns/Op-Ed, New York (metropolitan), Business, Sports of The Times, Arts, Science, Styles, Home, Travel and other features.  

Newspapers.com is the largest online newspaper archive consisting of 530 million+ pages of historical newspapers from 14,400+ newspapers from around the United States and beyond. Newspapers span the years from 1690 to present to provide a unique view of the past and can help us understand and connect with the people, events and attitudes of an earlier time.

OED is the accepted authority on the evolution of the English language over the last millennium. It is an unsurpassed guide to the meaning, history, and pronunciation of over half a million words, both present and past.  Benefits of OEDOnline include unprecedented access to the 20-volume Second Edition and at least 1,800 new and revised words each quarter; everything from simple word look-ups to sophisticated Boolean searching; finding a term when you know the meaning but have forgotten the word; using wildcards if you are from a particular author and/or work; searching for first cited dates, authors and works; searching for words with a particular part of speech.

Britannica School’s content is available at all reading levels for elementary, middle, and upper school students.  This database is excellent for general research to help students find information needed for classwork and assignments.  Once a topic is found, three tabs are available:  the encyclopedia article, images and videos, and related.  Under the related tab, students can locate different articles in the encyclopedia, plus by clicking on “Web’s Best Sites,” they are directed to websites selected by the Britannica editors for quality and age-appropriateness.
