Academics
More than bricks, desks, books, athletic fields, performing arts centers, and media labs,
the story of The Wardlaw+Hartridge School is the story of our diverse students and the expert faculty and staff who invest their lives to empower those students to live lives of courage, character, and success.
We are Pioneering. Thinkers.
The Wardlaw+Hartridge School develops academic and intellectual excellence in its students through programs that stretch creative imaginations, develop athletic and artistic skills, engage a sense of discovery, and foster a social conscience. Beginning with our Early Childhood curriculum and moving through the Lower, Middle, and Upper Schools, our program prepares students to graduate as confident young adult learners with a uniquely global mindset. Our classroom settings are structured and flexible, with a personal approach to education in order to support individual excellence and prepare graduates for the rigors of college, life and citizenship in the 21st century. Our program offers opportunities for exploring individual interests, developing mastery in the essential skills of critical reading, sophisticated writing, strong problem-solving and qualitative reasoning, while also building capacity and proficiency in critical life skills, such as resilience, time management, creativity, empathy, teamwork, curiosity, and civic engagement.
EARLY CHILDHOOD
The Early Childhood program at W+H honors and values childhood by creating nurturing, joyful experiences for children in grades Pre-Kindergarten, Junior Kindergarten, and Kindergarten. With small classes and differentiated instruction, our dedicated Early Childhood teachers cultivate confidence and build independence while providing challenges and academic rigor.
LOWER SCHOOL
The Lower School is a place where academic achievement is enmeshed with developing a true love of learning. We teach students to find joy in the pursuit of knowledge, and we develop active problem-solvers, nurture independent thinkers, and graduate curious young students who are not only capable of learning but who want to keep learning for the rest of their lives.
MIDDLE SCHOOL
At The Wardlaw+Hartridge School, Middle Schoolers navigate a fascinating period in their development as they move through early adolescence, developing from concrete to abstract thinkers and growing daily in independence. The Middle School is a place where young people embrace their individuality, cultivate their self-confidence, and discover more of their talents.
UPPER SCHOOL
The Wardlaw+Hartridge Upper School provides the final stage in preparing students to succeed in an array of college programs, especially those which are elite, challenging academic settings. Our students participate actively and engage fully in a journey of self-discovery and accomplishment that encompasses not just the college experience but the vast opportunities of a lifetime.
