Two W+H students recently received recognition for their work in the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards competition, which is recognized both regionally and nationally as the nation’s longest running and most prestigious recognition program for creative teens. This year’s competition received more than 16,000 submissions from the East Coast region alone.

Laylay Qian ’27 won two Silver Key Awards in the Drawing & Illustration category, which is known to be one of the most competitive categories. Laylay’s artistic creations are titled Mr. Frog and Just Fight for Food.

“I'm thrilled to have received this award, it means that my efforts have been recognized,” Laylay said. “I'll be creating more fun works in the future.”

Harshini Asokumar ’26 was awarded a Gold Key, the top award, for her piece The Memory Seller in the Science Fiction & Fantasy category, which qualifies her for a National Level award. Additionally, she received two Silver Keys for Through the Looking Glass  and Elegy for the Girl in the Palm of a Burning Nation, along with three Honorable Mentions for Wings that Wish to Fly, Lady Liberty, Do You Hear Her?,  and Forgive Me, Kali in the Poetry category.

“I am deeply grateful to my teachers at Wardlaw+Hartridge for their unwavering support and inspiration, which have profoundly shaped me as a writer,” Harshini said.
