Various Upper School students have participated in promoting the Chinese Mid-Autumn festival within the past week. The Mid-Autum festival, also known as the Moon Festival or Mooncake Festival, is a harvest festival celebrated in Chinese culture. It is held on the 15th day of the 8th month of the Chinese lunisolar calendar with a full moon at night, corresponding to mid-September to early October of the Gregorian calendar. This year’s Mid-Autumn Festival fell on Monday, October 6.
Students in the Chinese Culture Club and International Students at W+H allyship presented facts about the festival at Upper School Monday meeting. Students in Ms. Hua Liu’s AP Chinese class promoted the festival at last week’s Lower School assembly, teaching a dance to the students, teachers and parents. The students also joined Upper School teachers and school administrators in making a video to share online in celebration of the festival.
International students gathered with Ms. Liu and Mr. Gerard Gonnella, Director of the International Student Program, to make moon cakes in the Oakwood Room to continue the celebration. Students in the Chinese IV and Chinese V classes also joined in the festivities.
