W+H parent Carolyn López Herrera, a producer and creative executive with a strong background in Latino-focused media projects, met with Upper School students on Sept. 30 in the Berry Performing Arts Center as part of the school’s recognition of Hispanic Heritage Month. She shared details about her current project, a Grammy Tribute Special honoring Latino music greats such as Gloria Estefan and Ricky Martin, as well as other Latino-related media she has produced. She also showed samples of her work, including the SuperEllas Animation Series and Koati Animation Series.
Ms. López Herrera, parent of Emilia Herrera ’28, is a television producer and writer with extensive experience across music-based programming, documentary, animation, scripted series, live events and digital content. She has proven expertise in post-production supervision, creative development, writing, directing, team leadership and network delivery and is skilled in serving both general and Spanish-speaking markets. She shared best practices on her journey to working in television, answered questions and took pictures with members of the Upper School’s Hispanic Latinx Alliance.
The World Cup of Music events continued in Middle and Upper School, with both brackets taking shape as Hispanic Heritage Month hits the midway mark. Middle School Spanish teacher Tamica Van Dunk and Upper School Spanish teacher Claudia Gonzalez are running separate brackets and look forward to seeing the differences of opinion within their divisions.
Lower School students continue to be greeted by Hispanic rhythms upon arrival each day. Our youngest students will be treated to HHM themed presentations at their Friday assemblies on Oct. 3 and Oct. 10. More activities and events will take place in all three divisions in this month long celebration, including Hispanic Latinx Alliance presentations at morning assemblies.
