The W+H Athletic Department celebrated another fine school year of team and individual accomplishments at the annual Rams Recognition Night on June 3. The event began with a dinner prepared by Sage Dining Services in the AP Room and continued with team and individual awards in the Berry Performing Arts Center.
Athletic director Mike Romeo hosted the ceremony, with assistance from assistant athletic director Courtney McClain and athletic trainer Ryan Oliveira. Dr. Corinna Crafton, Head of School, shared welcome remarks at the start of the program.
Six athletes who have compiled at least nine varsity letters received W+H blankets: Al-Hammed Bell ’25, Kacey Marmolejos ’25, Tommy O’Connor ’25, Luis Perez ’26, CJ Strauss ’26 and Mohisha Jha ’26. The boys’ tennis team earned the Highest GPA Award and varsity swimming coach Shane Tonery was honored as Coach of the Year.
Senior athletes who participated for four years in the same sport received special personalized rosewood boxes: Al-Hammed Bell ’25, Ava Choi ’25, Samuel Cohen ’25, Ancel De Jesus ’25, Adam Eisdorfer ’25, Samuel Faust ’25, Jessie Grimes ’25, Tapleen Kaur ’25, Noah Kornfeld ’25, Kayla Le ’25, Amelie Leu ’25, Savanna Lopez ’25, Julia Machado ’25, Kacey Marmolejos ’25, Cian Nicholls ’25, Thomas O'Connor ’25, Giselle Rodriguez ’25, Rajwans Sindhar ’25, Arjun Vora ’25, Kate Wolff ’25 and Annie Yu ’25.
The Booster Club, led by WHPA/BC president Shakti Jha, presented the Robert B. Vietor Award for outstanding commitment, dedication and loyalty to the athletic program to Cian Nicholls ’25 and Rajwans Sindhar ’25. The W+H Athletic Department also made a special presentation of gratitude to Jessica Nicholls for her amazing sports photography work throughout the school year.
Mr. Romeo, with assistance from last year’s winner Adam Eisdorfer ‘25, presented the Max Stevens Leadership and Athletics Award to Luis Perez ’26. This award has been endowed by the Stevens family, friends, alumni and former trustees in memory of Max Stevens ’04, who passed away in 2020. Max embodied many of the school’s core values during his many years as a student and alumnus. This award provides funding for the annual recipient to pursue a leadership program of their choice, ensuring that Max’s legacy will live on in our students and graduates.
All varsity teams were called to the risers in front of the stage as Mr. Romeo shared an animated presentation on the large screen including comments from all the head coaches. Team awards, including MVPs, Coaches Awards, Most Improved and Rookie of the Year, were given to the athletes. Individual all-division and all-conference honors and team championships also were highlighted during the festive celebration of a fine year in W+H athletics.
