W+H is proud to celebrate three outstanding Upper School students – Leo Fan ’27, Victor Liu ’28 and Dylon Jiang ’27 – for earning top results on this year’s AMC Mathematics Competition. Their exceptional performance places them among the top scorers nationwide and makes them strong candidates for selection to the prestigious American Invitational Mathematics Examination (AIME), an honor reserved for roughly the top 2–5% of participants.
This marks the second consecutive year that W+H international students have distinguished themselves at this elite level. The AMC and AIME contests are widely recognized for measuring deep mathematical reasoning and problem-solving abilities, offering a universal benchmark that transcends differences in global math curricula. For many international students, the competitions provide an opportunity to showcase advanced analytical skills and strengthen their applications to top STEM-focused universities, including MIT, Princeton and Caltech.
Nineteen W+H students – both domestic and international – participated in this year’s AMC, demonstrating the school’s continued commitment to fostering mathematical curiosity and challenge. Ms. Safia Haddam, Math Department Chair, and Mr. Gerard Gonnella ’89, Director of the International Student Program, presented certificates of participation to all competitors, with special recognition for Leo, Victor and Dylon for their remarkable achievement and potential qualification for AIME.
