Upper School Athletes of the Week - Jan. 18

Mike Romeo, Athletic Director, announced this week’s Upper School Athletes of the Week. Congratulations to cheerleader Giselle Rodriguez ’25 and track athletes Sevastian Castillo ’26, Adam Eisdorfer ‘25, Tommy O’Connor ’25 and Vineeth Reddy ’23.

Giselle did not have a winter sport and Coach Tanda Tucker felt she is too talented of an athlete to not be part of a winter team. As a dancer, it was possible she would love to cheer so why not try it out? Obviously, she gave it a shot but more impressive is how talented she is at a sport she has only been doing for one season. Giselle has quickly become one of the team’s strongest cheerleaders. She is extremely coachable and when she is given correction, she works to make the changes needed. She does what it takes to make a stunt hit even if she is holding all the weight of her flier alone. Her determination and grit make her a valuable member of the competition team.

Last Wednesday the “Fantastic Four” of W+H track runners shattered the Wardlaw+Hartridge school record by eight seconds in the 4x800 relay at the NJSIAA/Non-Public B State Relay Championships in Toms River. Sevastian, Adam, Tommy, and Vineeth’s historic accomplishment was not by accident. It’s a result of the focus and time they put into training every day. Coach Jamal Burden said he could not be more proud of these boys!
