Lunar New Year Festivities Begin with Interactive Activities

Upper School students shared information and presentations about Lunar New Year to kick off this year’s celebration at the Lower School Assembly on Friday, January 24. Asian American Pacific Islander affinity group members Amelie Leu ’25, Kayla Le ’25, Briana Li ’25 and Natalie Chen ’26 introduced a special event for the following week in which AAPI members will visit Lower School classrooms for Lunar New Year activities.

Chinese V Honors students Sammy Faust ’25, Cian Nicholls ’25 and Arjun Vora ’25 discussed the important Lunar New Year tradition of giving red envelopes, a symbol of good luck. The students received red envelopes with Lunar New Year stickers inside.

Trina Junod, Assistant Director of Admission, taught the Lower School a Lunar New Year dance. Fifth grade Honor Guards Chanel Brazoban ’32, Akira Vijay ’32 and Riya Chaturvedi ’32 assisted Mrs. Junod in teaching the moves to the Lower School students, teachers and parents.

Chinese classes, the Chinese Painting Club and the International Students affinity group engaged in other Lunar New Year themed activities throughout the week, including holiday decorations and calligraphy. Upper School students will end the week with a celebration event in Laidlaw Gym on Friday, January 31.
