Rudy Brandl

Upper School Chinese classes, the Chinese Painting Club and the International Students affinity group led a celebration event for Lunar New Year in Laidlaw Gym on Friday, January 31. The celebration event capped a week of art related activities in the Middle and Upper School classrooms and decorating around campus.

Friday’s celebration began with a welcome from Ms. Hua Liu, Upper School Chinese teacher and Director of China Studies. Chinese V Honors student Sammy Faust ’25 and international student Jason Cheng ’25 provided opening remarks in both English and Chinese. The event continued with a ribbon dance and Happy New Year song by the Chinese classes and Upper School band. A song and dance routine to the famous and traditional Chinese folk song “Jasmine Flower” followed with Aarya Patel ’25 (vocal) and Annie Yu ’25 (dance) combining for a beautiful performance.

Other activities included the giving of Hongbao, the traditional red envelopes, a tug of war competition between the classes, and culture-related games led by the International Students affinity group. Middle School students joined the fun and games at the Chinese Culture Fair.
