Eighth Graders Analyze Poetry

Rudy Brandl

Dr. Corinna Crafton, Middle School Head, enjoyed the opportunity to return to the classroom to teach an eighth-grade English class last Friday. Accompanied by Mr. Andrew Webster, Head of School, Dr. Crafton conducted a class discussion on “otherness” and “identity” using the poem Red Brocade by Naomi Shihab.

Students, both in class and remote, read the poem aloud together, discussed its meaning and answered a series of questions. The content served as another springboard for the upcoming Symposium in the spring entitled Inclusive Communities: Race and Identity.
