Eighth Grade Families Learn About College Process

Rudy Brandl

The Admission and College Counseling offices hosted a special information session for eighth grade families titled Pathway to College on March 7 in the Oakwood Room. Eighth grade students and their families learned more about the college admission landscape and what to expect from the W+H College Counseling Team to prepare them for the next step during their Upper School years.

Sarah Honan, Director of College Counseling, and Alayne Birnhak, Associate Director of College Counseling, shared a very informative presentation with the parents and students. Topics covered included application trends in recent years, strengthening student candidacy, standardized testing, the importance of authenticity in applications, elements of a strong application, guiding principles and overview of the W+H college counseling program, and how parents can support their students.

Upper School students Vinay Karthik ’25, Amelie Leu ’25, Dharren Culver ’26 and CJ Strauss ’26 also attended the session to field questions from parents and students.
