CJ Strauss ’26 Represents W+H at National Event

Rudy Brandl '83

CJ Strauss ’26 was proud and honored to represent her school at National Girls and Women in Sports Day, an annual event that acknowledges the accomplishments of female athletes, recognizes the influence of sports participation for women and girls, and honors the progress and advocation for equality for women in sports.

This year, the NJSIAA partnered with Rutgers University in the observance of this event on Sunday, Feb. 8. Nominated female student-athletes from New Jersey were honored at halftime of the Rutgers University women’s basketball game vs. Minnesota. CJ was accompanied by her parents, Mr. Pete Strauss and Dr. Alissa Kaye, her sister Lexi, and joined by Courtney McClain, Assistant Athletic Director.

“I was beyond proud to represent Wardlaw+Hartridge at this event,” CJ said. “It was incredibly meaningful to stand alongside all the nominees from all over the state. I loved being able to not just represent myself but also all my teammates, coaches and everyone who supported me throughout my athletic journey.”

CJ excels in two sports for the Rams – tennis in the fall and basketball during the winter. She played a key role on the girls’ tennis team’s four consecutive division titles, competing in doubles early in her varsity career before earning a singles position the past two seasons. CJ is wrapping up her fourth straight varsity basketball season, leading the Rams in points, rebounds and blocked shots this year.

She entered W+H in seventh grade and immediately made her mark as a leader in the Middle School athletic program. CJ believes her positivity and work ethic are strengths that earned her this special opportunity to represent the Rams.

“This event was memorable for me because my whole family was there cheering me on from the stands,” she said. “It was really nice to be at the game with them because I wouldn't be involved in or care about sports if it wasn't for my Dad.”
