W+H began its celebration of Black History Month this week. Upper School Black Student Alliance co-leaders Hope Nasulme ’25 and Naomi Craig ’25 and their affinity group are leading a series of events, presentations and activities in all three divisions throughout the month. BSA members will entertain the audience with a special performance at International Family Fun Night on Friday night in the AP Room.
At this week’s Upper School Monday meeting, Naomi and Hope shared a presentation titled The Black Maternal Mortality Crisis in America during which they explored the racial disparities in maternal health. They shared facts and statistics, discussed why more awareness is needed, and offered possible solutions.
The BSA will continue to be active throughout February at events in all three divisions. BSA members shared a presentation highlighting “Six Unsung Black Heroes You May Not Know” at this week’s Middle School community meeting and are also reading books to our young Lower School students highlighting Black voices and stories throughout the month.
