Mrs. Nicole Nolan's AP Human Geography classes completed their year of study with their annual Food and Family Migration Unit with Andy Meyer of CityLAB, a partnership that is now in its fourth year. Students who learned about migration throughout the year in their APHG classes were first given a lecture from Mr. Meyer in May about how food migrates and changes over time, specifically focusing on the Lower East Side of Manhattan.
Students, working in groups of 2-3, researched and prepared presentations on their own family food migration stories. Prior to final presentations, the students enjoyed the annual walking and food tour of the LES, including Chinatown, parts of Little Italy, and neighborhood favorites like The Pickle Guy and Katz's Delicatessen. The unit concluded with student presentations and food sharing on Thursday, May 29 in the Oakwood Room. Thank you to the WHPA for their Global Scholars Program grant that helps to fund this annual unit and trip!
