AP Environmental Science students are studying the course through Project Based Learning and they will produce five collaborative projects throughout the class. In the first project, the students conducted an audit of the school's waste, water and energy usage and proposed solutions. Based on their findings, they created their own plans to reduce the school's ecological footprint and looked at the problems through environmental, economic, social and cultural lenses.
APES instructor Ann Pengue introduced four student groups, who shared their proposals with a group of school administrators on October 23 in the Oakwood Room. The panel of administrators and staff, which included Dr. Corinna Crafton (Head of School), Nicole Hamilton (Dean of Faculty) and Christina Jackson (School Counselor), provided feedback and chose the proposal that was most beneficial and could be easily implemented.
Students who participated in the project included: Dharren Culver ’26, Alex Eisdorfer ’27, Mohisha Jha ’26, Vetri Maharajan ’27, Rohan Mann '28, Isabelle Ortega ’26, Monica Ouyang ’28, Lewis Peng ’27, Sophia Riccio ’26, Ishani Shah ’26, Zayn Shen ’27, Charlotte Szczubelek ’26, Ryan Thakkar ’27 and Mackias Ysaac ’26.
