Seventh Graders Step Back in Time During Williamsburg Trip
This week, seventh graders traveled to Colonial Williamsburg, where they gleaned valuable lessons in history, art, science and more. They were accompanied by Nancy Duddy, MS history teacher, Gerard R. Gonnella '89, Associate Director of Admission, Ean Plotkin, MS Latin teacher, and Tanda Tucker, MS art teacher.
On Monday, November 10, the students learned about tobacco planting and boat-building at Jamestown. At Yorktown, tour guides and docents demonstrated meat-packing methods and needlepoint, while students also received a birds-eye view of military headquarters where a general might write his dispatches. Many students met with docents acting as lieutenants of the Continental Army.
Students learned how to build a coffee house, as well as other Colonial chores and cooking methods on Tuesday, November 11. On Wednesday, they visited the Gun Powder Magazine, learned about Colonial dress and how to set a table in the 18th century, and played a lively game of stick ball.
The class returned to Wardlaw-Hartridge on Friday, November 14. More photos will be displayed in This Week in Pictures in the November 20 edition of WHEN.
